3 signs that may indicate a divorce coming

On Behalf of | Apr 27, 2023 | Divorce |

Many people are taken by surprise when their spouse files for a divorce. Yet, those making such a big decision do not do it on the spur of the moment. They’ve usually thought about it for some time.

Learning the warning signs can reduce the chance you get taken by surprise. Here are some:

1. They no longer argue about anything

Few marriages are without their disagreements and there can be a certain reassurance in knowing that your spouse will always moan at you or argue with you when you do or say a particular thing. If they suddenly stop, it’s unlikely to mean they’ve come around to your point of view. Rather, they may have given up because they realize the situation is never going to change.

2. They appear to be avoiding you

If they always have something else to do when you suggest doing something together, it could be they’re particularly busy with work or studies. Or, it could mean they are finding extra things to do in order to avoid time with you.

3. They no longer treat you with compassion

If you can no longer turn to your spouse for support when you have a bad day, it’s a worry. If they make you feel like every little bad thing that happens to you is your fault, it shows they’ve lost their empathy toward you. Relationships need empathy to function.

If you have noticed these signs in your marriage, it does not necessarily mean you are about to get divorced, but experience shows them to be good indicators. If you think divorce is becoming a real possibility, then consider learning more about how a divorce would work.
